Hey Lindsey,

Pleased to be writing live from Seattle. It’s a beautiful city, albeit wet.

Luckily I’m nothing like Maverick. In my head there might be similarities, but in life I’m polar opposite. Probably for the best I dare say.

This is my third year working in development, having spent time with a smaller NGO. That has a very different audience, but many of the challenges are the same.

I enjoy the work, even though there are frustrating aspects to it. Balancing the richness of stories with the challenges we’re faced with is nevertheless rewarding. With that said, development is taxing.

A couple of people have asked me a about the philosophy thing. I’ll dedicate a post to it later this week.

PS. Your blog has become one of may fab lately; keep it up

Maverick, aye? Not sure if I could imagine my boss (assuming that’s likely what you’d be if we worked on the same team) as an ex-wanna-be Maverick. But the Maverick philosopher… well, that would make for some interesting team meetings. Glad to hear you’re aboard the international dev agency ship… keen to know how you like it and just how much your philosophical tendencies play into your decision making here. Cheers.

Can’t wait to hear about your travels in philosophy. It was a bit hard to chew at times but the challenge of making sense out of nonsense was fun.

I’ll have to tell you about the personal training thing sometime

You’re right. I suppose the trick is finding a balance which allows us to enjoy the journey and success, plus always working on that next goal.

It’s a delicate balance between enjoying where we are and seeking out new experiences. I tend to be too driven and not sufficiently able to enjoy the success I have achieved. But without a few goals, maybe you do stagnate…
